LIS/EMR Connectivity

Quick-Link® is the only Point of Care system that was designed from the beginning to allow multiple simultaneous outputs to different LIS/EMRs, and to separate the output components from all other components of the system.  This maintains output independence from the Drivers and/or the User Interface and allows Point of Care results to be routed to different LIS/EMRs that might exist within the various hospitals of an Integrated Healthcare Network.  It also accommodates the need to create two different outputs within the same facility: one used for testing and the other for live operation.  These outputs can be any of the following:

  • POCT1-A HL7
  • ASTM
  • Script
  • Combination of HL7, ASTM and/or Script
  • Unsolicited results - Defined as:
    • Results for which the receiving system does NOT have an order
    • Where the receiving system must have the capability to create an order on the appropriate patient event and post the result from the HL7 message
    • Where results are identified with either the Medical Record or Account Number
    • For tests typically performed outside the laboratory (e.g., POC)
  • Solicited results - Defined as:
    • Results for which the receiving system does have an order
    • Where the sending system must be able to provide the "order" ID, which for an LIS/EMR is the accession number
    • Where the receiving system must then post the results to the "order" ID provided
    • For tests generally performed within the laboratory or sometimes the pulmonary lab, but on POC devices
    • Where the laboratory may want these type of results to be processed through their LIS/EMR instrument interface module, not their POC interface module
  • Combination of solicited and unsolicited results - examples:
    • Glucose performed by nursing
    • Glucose also performed by phlebotomy on the same devices used by nursing
    • Blood gases performed by the pulmonary lab or the clinical lab

There is a single component for each of the output types even though different LIS/EMR vendors require different message formats and each script is customized for each customer.  Within each of the components are TELCOR's proprietary mapping capabilities that allow format changes through configuration options to vary the format required for the customer/vendor.  This provides the flexibility to offer custom functionality but eliminates the need to maintain custom code for each customer based on their unique output requirements.
